not counting those many years that i have experienced the violent and sometimes horrifyingly fun black nazarene festvial in quiapo (we lived there for more that ten years,) i have never really experienced those colorful filipino fiestas. i’ve always dreamt of getting into the middle of the aklan’s ati-atihan or go drunk dancing in the streets of lucban during pahiyas or just stand in awe as ladies take off their tops during mardi gras in new orleans (well, it’s not in the philippines but you have to admit it’s totally a must-see!.) imagine my delight when i realized that dj and anna’s wedding was a week before the masskara festival and masskara dancers will perform while we feast on unlimited chicken inasal during their welcome dinner the night before!
getting a little taste of what’s in store makes me want to go back there badly next week to experience the whole thing. due to my commitments here in manila, i can only wish i could.
