got mail?

Posted By bim in whatnot

the mailman is too lazy to drop by our place so my beautiful wife and my loving sister had to pick the package up from the post office themselves. apparently, my shih tzu is a lot more eager to open the package than i was. =)

destination wedding: paroquia de san agustin, lubao, pampanga
reception: lakeshore, pampanga
photo: cherryblocks

a little over three p.m., the groom is yet to arrive at the church. soon after, he went straight to their wedding officiant to apologize for being late. coming some forty minutes away, michelle, i am assuming is not worried that he won’t show up. after all, keeping her waiting and giving her a little scare may have been part of luisito’s one too many crazy ideas all along.

some footnotes: the bride dressed up at the gorgeous family-owned farm. it was my first time working with chuck and the rest of cherryblocks. it was also my first time riding a helicopter. i found a boyfriend for my pet shih tzu. lastly, the groom and his totally funkalicious dance moves single-handedly burned the freakin’ dance floor! =)

ten days. it was a painfully short trip but i wouldn’t want it any other way! =)

fourteen years ago, my dad went to hawaii to make the ultimate sacrifice of leaving his family behind to provide us with a better life. from the very first day that he stepped on united states soil, all he ever dreamt of was to see every single one of us with him there. as soon as my sister got her u.s. visa and eventually went on to become a citizen, we’ve exhausted all our efforts to get me, my mom and my younger sister to the u.s. seven months after my mom arrived, a day before my 30th birthday, as i promised, this happened:

it was short but it was the best ten days of my life! we didn’t get to do everything but we were able to accomplish a whole darn lot. shave ice, hanauma bay, swap meet, north shore, ala moana, snow crabs, waikiki beach, luau, pearl harbor…hawai’i is simply gorgeous. i’m very glad to know that i can always call it home. we’re very close as a family and our simplest joy is to hang out together even for just ten short days. we’ve spent so much time away from each other that every reunion reminds us that life is too short to spend apart. we’re coming back hopefully sooner than expected and the wait is friggin’ killing me already. =)

bebek//derrick & bonny

Posted By bim in indonesia, international, whatnot

international wedding: kayumanis nusa dua spa and resort bali, indonesia
photo: bunn salarzon

hotel california was playing inside my head as i walk from bonny’s villa to derrick’s early on during their wedding day. no, no, it wasn’t the music i’m using for their video and not that there’s something wrong about it except for the fact that the band who played this song actually offered their souls to the devil in exchange for fame. it’s my body’s natural defensive response to control panic and excitement from getting a little bit too much.

two days before the wedding, just minutes after gen and i met the couple for the first time, i remember derrick saying we’re part of the family right then. moments later, bonny was singing her version of i finally found someone. it was that kind of chemistry that made us instantly at home.

it was our first time documenting a muslim ceremony and frankly, as the song in my head continued playing, i had no idea what was about to unfold. all i knew however, was that they have this beautiful resort dressed up with a floating stage on the pool and a couple of extremely different culture is about to merge.

our stay in bali was absolutely phenomenal. not only did we experience the local traditions, we got to enjoy the sights and the food with the best company all the way from italy, thailand, laos, cambodia, US, mexico and indonesia. we couldn’t ask for anything more.

bonny looked like a goddess. she took everybody’s breath away when she walked down that floating aisle. soon enough, emotions were overflowing. it was one of the most beautiful weddings we have ever witnessed.

moments before we said goodbye to the couple one last time, bonny said we’re part of the family now. not one second during our stay that we didn’t feel like it! =)

what a rush//roadtrip 2011

Posted By bim in whatnot

ahh, the great white north! it has always been close to my heart. when our friends from the agency called us to book our services for this year’s edition of the infamous roadtrip, we were much delighted to learn that the three-day tour will start in thunderbird, la union and end (in rocking fashion as always) in ilocos.

two hundred riders from all over the philippines gathered together for an experience of a lifetime. this year, we had the pleasure to document the event as the participants enjoyed the beautiful old churches all over northern luzon.

it was my first time in vigan and truly it was a visual delight. every corner is a spot for a photo opportunity. my mouth waters in the thought of the sumptuous lunch we had along calle crisologo: ilocano made pakbet and dinuguan plus bagnet dipped in sukang iloco…i remember two from my team grabbed a couple of bags of empanada for the road, no pun intended.

our lunch in pagudpud the next day, on the other hand, was made extra special by brownman revival’s live performance!

the bangui windmills was a sight to behold. a must see!

did i mentioned that it ended in rocking fashion? our video was played in sync with the dawn’s live performance of iisang bangka! some participants couldn’t help shed a tear or two as they watched the same day edit after the long trip. i was absolutely stoked! =)

it’s our second year doing this now and it is our ultimate adrenaline fix. my team started shooting even before the actual event began. ’til the next roadtrip!

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. —Robert Frost
