when i first heard and witnessed the capabilities of hd video recording of the latest iphone from apple, i was intrigued and i played with the idea of having one. in the end, continuously telling myself that i don’t need one finally convinced my mind into not purchase one. i do have my second generation handy dandy iphone 3g anyway (not the 3gs with video and autofocus feature,) and for just $0.99 cents at the itunes store i got me a video recorder with a quality worth, well, ninety-nine cents!

i actually got the idea of getting a video recording software for my phone from my good friends husband and wife who i fondly call jeff(erson) & (ramona)lisa and i remember telling jeff(rey) that i’ll someday use it in one of my onsite videos and i’ll show it to him. that’s before i knew how crappy the quality of the video my phone could produce.

since i didn’t have to do an onsite video, i finally got the chance to record my phone’s video recording abilities last week. the quality is better than i expected. i did no further enhancements and the old 8mm film effect is from the software itself. =)

iphone 4…i don’t need it, i’d rather get myself an ipad (or if i’m really lucky, my sister already got me one)…but since my wife accidentally soaked her nokia e71 while washing my underpants, maybe she needs a new phone…evil grin!

The Video

when a wedding videographer gets married, expectations, i believe, is higher than the ordinary and the pressure to produce a wedding video is almost insurmountable. all that, i didn’t want.

at first i toyed with the idea of making one. soon, when people around me started asking who’s gonna edit the onsite video on my wedding day, i joked and said i would. i was only kidding.

i knew that if i had one, it should be different…special…extraordinary…if i had one, i wanted something that’s never been done before.

i wanted one.

less than two weeks before our big day, i started documenting everything. less than a week before our big day, i started writing the script and the timeline. inspired by edward norton’s monologue in the hollywood film 25th Hour and (seriously) jay manalo’s narration in aubrey miles highest grossing film Prosti plus television blockbuster Lost’s flashback and flashforward style of story telling, i came up with a short-film-like concept…and somehow, the buzzing sound of the projector playing in the background made perfect sense for an onsite song. =)

The E-Session

it was an event that almost didn’t happen. we literally searched every town in bulacan for a location we so desperately need for the theme until our frenzied road trip finally brought us to clark, pampanga. we needed the perfect place to complete the concept and we got just what we were looking for. the long drive was so darn worth it.

geoff gonzales, my friends, is a real genius. i remember meeting him the first time and the ideas came out naturally. when i told him i wanted something different, he told me he sees something extreme…when i told him i wanted something extreme, he told me he sees something over the edge…when he asked me if i was willing, i told him bring it! come the actual day, his team doing an awesome, awesome job is an understatement.

i guess oly ruiz never had an e-session like this. he was dead tired from a long trip during our meeting but he was, as always, up for the challenge…and a challenge he had. i am deeply grateful to him and his metrophoto team (shout outs to rommel and francis), always exceeding the highest standard of expectations. =)

gen and i never kissed, not even on the cheeks, the entire time. we walked around almost naked, ate plastic babies, wore heavy make-up but, and most importantly, had a lot of fun.

as the day nears, i get more excited. the schedule is as hectic as it can be and every day ends can’t seem to be enough. even my constantly updated blog has been neglected this past week. =) i have less than seven days left before i kiss bachelorhood goodbye and i’m having a lot of fun doing so. =)

we’re finally done with our prenuptial pictorial and should time permit, i’ll try to squeeze in some footage of that awesome shoot with my great friend, oly ruiz. ninong jason also informed me that our wedding film will be processed in high definition! old school meets new school baby!!!

the first wave of our relatives abroad has also arrived. first up, my sister and her two baby girls…and all hell breaks loose every time a 1 and a half year old and a 3 month old cry at the same time. the future, my friend, looks brighter than ever!

i promised myself that i’d post at least two more onsite videos in my blog before i tie the knot. here’s one with a song that sounds like it came from a generation i didn’t belong to. i loved it the first time i heard it. plus, the mother and daughter moment is totally money!

[the ondoy story i never had]//[vince and melai]

i do not have an ondoy story. on that fateful day, during the worst typhoon our country has experienced for more than four decades, i was on the sixteenth floor, safe and dry. no walking for an hour to get to a destination, no hour-long traffic jam encountered, no flood, no landslides, no floating cars, no power interruptions, not even internet connection problems. as a matter of fact, i had no idea how bad the situation was until our bride turned on the television some time before lunch. it was then that i realized that i was very lucky.

i remember sleeping the night before, at about 3 a.m., it was already pouring hard. when i woke up, there were no signs that the rain was slowing down. the most challenging part of the day was getting into our vehicle. one of my shooters was wearing his third outfit when he successfully got into the car.

it was just another day in the office. the trip to the hotel didn’t take more than thirty minutes. the rain was worse than ever. a couple of hours later, our bride was receiving text messages that people won’t be able to make it. soon, phone call after phone call, the bride and the groom finally decided to talk about the whole situation…we waited…

i do not have an ondoy story…but i had a couple who had one…and i was lucky to be there to witness and to capture that one epic moment of their lives.

it was a sad day for the country. when i got home, the horror was unbearable. then again, this exact same thing happens every single year in our country. only this time, it hit manila. i am glad to see a lot of people lending a helping hand. i am trying my very best to do my part and i am positive that somehow, someway, like we always do, we are gonna get through.

my christmas story

Posted By bim in personal, whatnot

(the following blog post was written at about 2 a.m. christmas morning)
man this turned out to be the sweetest christmas! both my phones officially ran out of battery from all the messages i have received from friends. earlier today, i got myself a 50mm prime lens for the d90 and my very first chuck taylor shoes! i was so excited about the new shoes that i realized the last time i bought myself one was…never! i can’t believe it myself!

here’s the list of gifts i got (from dad, mom, gen, violy, my sisters, my brother in law, my niece and myself): the leather chucks, the 50mm prime lens, a lacoste perfume, a fossil watch, walking pants, a brown polo, a pair leather shoes from gen (my favorite), three calvin klein long sleeves, a pair of nike sneakers, a yellow t-shirt, three underwears, almost a kilogram of cheese balls, a fifty dollar bill, a starbucks planner, one our daily bread book? (what the heck!), chocolates, a bottle of wine (from janey and arvin), the cake and calendars from john and benz and a whole lot of love. =)

it was the perfect night until my grandfather was rushed to the e.r. because of breathing problems…everybody has to leave, but yeah, i know he’s gonna be alright. =) now, as i take the last sip from my second glass of wine and as the gloomy silent night song plays, i raise my glass to JC for another awesome birthday bash and to all you guys! here’s to a merry merry christmas! cheers!…if you’ll excuse me, i have a couple more avps to finish. =)

i’ll post the pictures as soon as i can. =)

on the other side of the lens

Posted By bim in personal, whatnot

engaged for almost four months, i believe “the bride” and i have accomplished quite a lot now. see, we’ve booked our church-st. james the great(est) and the venue-fernbrook. being a supplier and all, i thought this is gonna be a piece of cake, not! being a supplier makes it even worse! here are the stuff that makes our preparation totally crazy:

1. caterer – since i’ve basically tasted ‘em all, i really thought that they all taste the same. seriously, until we had our first food tasting as a “couple hunting for suppliers” and for the first time i tasted the difference, the difference, may i add, made me say ‘i should’ve eaten breakfast, d@mnit!’ :)

2. photographer – very sensitive stuff. these guys are mostly the people i interact with on the wedding day so it is totally impossible for me to choose. that being said, “the bride” and i decided that she’ gonna be the one to pick for us and i’m gonna be the one to call and haggle for discounts. :) fair enough, i guess.

3. videographer – i don’t want to edit my own wedding and it’s ridiculous to do an onsite video of my own wedding. just the thought of it is making me sarcastically laugh at myself…read my lips, i mean blog, i-want-jason-magbanua!!! i-want-him!!! who else to get but the world’s number one, and since i’m just number two, i don’t want me, i want him…(ok, let’s be honest here, we all know who’s number one and we all know that everybody says their number 2 and since you’re reading my blog, then in this case, until before you leave, i am number two. haha, you know i’m kidding right?) unfortunately, for the time being, we can’t afford him yet…i wonder though, if i can lend him my cameras, my laptop for the onsite, blank dvds for the final video, plus i get him as one of my ninongs, maybe, just maybe, i can get him for free…i mean 50% less. :)

4. hair and make up – not my problem… :)

5. coordinator – …and i remember somebody saying you can’t buy peace of mind…huh?!?

plus, there’s the couturier, flowers, invitations, don’t even get me started with the entourage selection…man, getting married ain’t easy. lucky for us, we still have a year and a half to prepare.

by the way, our new wedsite is up maintained by none other than “the bride” herself. if you have some extra time, check it out, better yet, sign the guestbook! address is bimandgen.weddingannouncer.com.
